Catfish and The Bottlemen cancel their world tour hours before they were set to take to the stage in Sydney

Catfish and the Bottlemen have cancelled their Australian tour dates just hours before they were set to take to the stage in Sydney.

The British indie rock band were scheduled to play Hordern Pavilion tonight, September 4, however ticket holders received an email saying the show would no longer be going ahead due to "band illness".

Just three days prior, the Cocoon musicians cancelled their Dublin show just 10 minutes before venue doors were set to open.

"This weekend they were hoping to still be able to perform but on doctor orders they were forced to cancel their show in Dublin," the email sent to Sydney ticketholders read.

"Due to band illness, the Australian dates this month will also no longer be going ahead. The band were really looking forward to these shows and sincerely apologise to everyone for any inconvenience and disappointment."

Following their performance in Sydney, Catfish and the Bottlemen were set to perform across Australia with shows in Melbourne, Newcastle, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth over the coming weeks.

On the Secret Sounds website Catfish and the Bottlemen's Australian tour dates are all listed as "cancelled." The band has also cancelled the remainder of their tour which was supposed to head to North America next.

Back in 2021, the band devastated fans as rumours of their breakup swirled after a slew of cancelled shows.

In June 2022, the band's lead guitarist Bondy – whose real name is Johnny Bond –released a statement on Instagram, clarifying what was going on.

"Understandably a lot of you are upset/angry and wondering what is happening with Catfish, especially given the recent news of the cancelled shows in Wales of which was also news to me," he wrote.

"After much deliberation, I originally parted ways with the remaining band in March 2021. This was not a decision that was made lightly. Basically, I felt that I had no choice but to walk away because of circumstances that were beyond my control."

He went on to say that "the breakdown of the band was unpleasant to say the least" and noting that he left due to "dysfunctional" relationships within the group and that he hadn't been in contact with the other band members.

So when news broke that Catfish and The Bottlemen were back together and headlining Reading and Leeds music festival, fans were shocked to say the least.

They then announced a world tour, with dates across the UK, Australia and North America. However, they only made it through a handful of shows before news of the cancellation broke this morning.

The band have not elaborated on why the tour has been cancelled outside of "band illness".
