Bruce Willis' declining health has been tough on his wife of 12 years, Emma Heming Willis.

The 43-year-old model, who married the Die Hard star in 2009, is reportedly struggling with seeing the love of her life battle aphasia, according to People.

After the Willis family revealed the actor, 67, would be retiring, a source has claimed the diagnosis has been "hard" on Emma as it is "not easy seeing a spouse decline".

"Their girls are still so young too," the insider said of the couple's two daughters Evelyn, 7, and Mabel, 10. "Emma has to keep it together for them."

The source also says Emma is "working with several professionals" to help her husband and has "arranged for him to see the best doctors".

Willis' family members released a joint statement last week announcing the actor's retirement and revealing he has been battling aphasia.

"To Bruce's amazing supporters, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities," the statement read.

"As a result of this and with much consideration Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him."
