Best news ever: 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' saved from cancellation after outrage from fans

Brooklyn Nine-Nine will live to see another season!

Just a day after it was announced that Fox, the US network that airs the beloved cop comedy, had decided to cancel the show after its fifth season, it's been confirmed that NBC has picked up the sitcom for a sixth season -- and it's all thanks to the fans.

"Ever since we sold this show to Fox I've regretted letting it get away, and it's high time it came back to its rightful home," said Robert Greenblatt, chairman of NBC Entertainment. "Mike Schur, Dan Goor, and Andy Samberg grew up on NBC and we're all thrilled that one of the smartest, funniest, and best cast comedies in a long time will take its place in our comedy line-up. I speak for everyone at NBC, here's to the Nine-Nine!"

The sixth season will have 13 episodes.

The power of the show's fan base has not been lost on the cast -- which includes Samberg, Andre Braugher, Terry Crews, Melissa Fumero, Joe Lo Truglio, Stephanie Beatriz, Chelsea Peretti, Dirk Blocker and Joel McKinnon Miller -- who took to social media to thank their dedicated viewers for raising their voices.

"NBC IS PICKING UP BROOKLYN 99 for SEASON 6!!!" Samberg shared on The Lonely Island's Instagram account. (Samberg stars as detective Jake Peralta and is also a producer of the show.)

"#Brooklyn99 IS COMING BACK FOR SEASON 6 ON NBC!!!!! You guys did this! You got loud and you were heard and we are forever grateful to you for doing so!!! Thank you to NBC for giving us the opportunity to finish this special show!! NINE NINE!!!!!!" wrote Fumero, who plays Samberg's onscreen love interest Amy Santiago.

"Oh hi squad, you f---ing did it," Beatriz, who plays bisexual detective Rosa Diaz said in a video to her Instagram followers. "Brooklyn Nine-Nine is gonna have a season six on NBC."

Lo Truglio and Peretti also shared their excitement about the news on Twitter.

The fifth and current season has seen the return of Gina (Peretti) after giving birth to her baby and is gearing up for Jake and Amy's wedding, which will be the season finale.

Thank goodness we will get to see the characters again after the wedding.
