Britney Spears' ex-husband Jason Alexander reportedly arrested for DUI and drug charges

Britney Spears' ex-husband Jason Alexander was reportedly arrested in Nashville, Tennessee. 

According to Us Weekly, the 39-year-old was arrested on January 26 and charged with driving under the influence, unlawful use of drug paraphernalia and possession or casual exchange of a controlled substance. 

The outlet also reported that Alexander refused to comply with police and refused to submit a test to determine his blood alcohol content. Bond was set at $2500 (approx. $3300) and he was released on the same day.

Alexander is a childhood friend of Spears with the duo growing up in Kentwood, Louisiana. They lost touch when Spears moved to LA to pursue a music career but reconnected one fateful night in 2004 when they eloped in Las Vegas — the bride wore ripped jeans and a baseball cap, FYI. 

"It was just crazy, man," Alexander told Access Hollywood at the time. "And we were just looking at each other and said, 'Let's do something wild, crazy. Let's go get married, just for the hell of it."'

However, the marriage was annulled after just 55 hours with Spears' legal team arguing she "lacked understanding of her actions, to the extent that she was incapable of agreeing to the marriage".

Spears went on to marry her backup dancer Kevin Federline in 2005. They had two children together, Sean Preston, now 15, and Jayden James, now 14, before divorcing in 2007.

Although neither Spears nor Alexander have been seen in public together since their whirlwind wedding, he has shown his support for the pop star from afar. During a #FreeBritney demonstration in LA last August, Alexander was front and centre protesting for the troubled singer to be freed if her conservatorship.

Alexander also appears to have attended the US Capitol riots on January 6, which turned violent and killed five people. Alexander posted a since-deleted selfie via his Facebook at the pro-Donald Trump gathering, wearing a red Trump 45 beanie in support of the then-US President. It is unclear if Alexander was present when the protest escalated into a riot and the crowd stormed the Capitol building in Washington D.C.
