Bradley Cooper finally addresses intimate Oscars duet with A Star Is Born co-star Lady Gaga

Bradley Cooper has finally addressed that performance with Lady Gaga at the 2019 Oscars.

The A Star Is Born co-stars graced the stage with an intimate duet of the movie's theme song, 'Shallow', at the star-studded ceremony two years ago, leaving many speculating if they took their on-screen romance off-set. Watch the performance above.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Cooper explained they had planned to act like their characters, Jackson and Ally, on the stage to make their performance resemble a scene from the critically acclaimed drama. In addition, the actor — who also directed the film — said getting into character helped ease his nerves over singing live.

"Just from a personal standpoint, it reduces the anxiety level," Cooper told the outlet. "They kind of fall in love in that scene in the film. It's that explosive moment that happens to happen to them on a stage in front of thousands of people … It would have been so weird if we were both on stools facing the audience."

Back in 2019, Gaga also shut down talk she and Cooper developed a romance on set. At the time, she was engaged Hollywood talent agent and Cooper was dating model Irina Shayk, who is the father of his four-year-old daughter Lea De Seine.

"I mean, we made a love story. For me, as a performer and as an actress, of course we wanted people to believe that we were in love," she said on Jimmy Kimmel Live of their Oscars performance.

"We wanted people to feel that love at the Oscars. We wanted it to go right through the lens of that camera and to every television that it was being watched on. And we worked hard on it, we worked for days," she added.

"We mapped the whole thing out — it was orchestrated as a performance. In truth, when we talked about it, we went, 'Well, I guess we did a good job!'"
