The family of late actor Bob Saget has reportedly filed a lawsuit to stop the release of records relating to the investigation into his sudden death.

The Full House star's widow Kelly Rizzo, and his three daughters from his previous marriage — Aubrey, 34, Lara, 32, and Jennifer, 29 — filed the suit against the medical examiner's office and the Orange County sheriff on February 15.

The family wishes to keep the investigation confidential and is seeking an injunction to block the release of any records, such as reports, photographs, audio and video recordings that have been gathered since Saget passed away in a Ritz-Carlton hotel room in Florida on January 9.

"Plaintiffs will suffer irreparable harm in the form of extreme mental pain, anguish, and emotional distress if Defendants release the Records in response to public records requests," the lawsuit stated, as reported by People.

The lawsuit further stated that "no legitimate public interest would be served by the release or dissemination of the records to the public".

Last week questions surrounding Saget's death were raised when an autopsy report determined the actor died from head trauma. According to People magazine, the autopsy indicated an "unwitnessed fall backwards" resulted in blunt force head trauma, complete with a list of extensive skull fractures and brain injuries.

The family released the following statement after the autopsy results were made public.

"The authorities have determined that Bob passed from head trauma. They have concluded that he accidentally hit the back of his head on something, thought nothing of it and went to sleep," they wrote. "No drugs or alcohol were involved."

"Now that we have the final conclusions from the authorities' investigation, we felt it only proper that the fans hear those conclusions directly from us," they continued. "As we continue to mourn together, we ask everyone to remember the love and laughter that Bob brought to this world, and the lessons he taught us all: to be kind to everyone, to let the people you love know you love them, and to face difficult times with hugs and laughter."
