A cerebrovascular accident is a medical term for a stroke, which involves a loss of blood flow to the brain, which can cause brain tissue damage.

Sources told the outlet White was "alert and coherent" after the stroke and died on New Year's Eve morning less than a week later. White was preparing to turn 100 on January 17.

"It was a mild stroke. She died peacefully in her sleep," an insider told People.

White's agent and close friend Jeff Witjas confirmed the actress "died peacefully in her sleep at her home" on December 31.

"Even though Betty was about to be 100, I thought she would live forever," Witjas told People.

"I will miss her terribly and so will the animal world that she loved so much. I don't think Betty ever feared passing because she always wanted to be with her most beloved husband Allen Ludden. She believed she would be with him again."

According to the assistant who was with White in her final moments, the actress' last word was "Allen".

Witjas was forced to shut down claims White had died after receiving the COVID-19 booster shot, after false social media claims began circulating.

"People are saying her death was related to getting a booster shot three days earlier but that is not true," Witjas said in a statement on January 3.
