AFL star Bailey Smith finally reveals the truth about rumoured romance with Aussie influencer Tammy Hembrow

It's the question all of Australia has been asking: what really happened between Bailey Smith and Tammy Hembrow

The pair sparked dating rumours back in August last year, recently revealing they are now just friends.

But was it ever more? Well, Smith has finally answered that question.

In an interview on Today this morning, the AFL star, 25, confirmed there were initially sparks between him and Hembrow, adding, "They always sort of fade out here and there."

Smith went on to explain that although the spark is gone, he and Tembrow remain good friends.

"She's a really close mate at the minute. [She's] honestly helped me with a bit of advice, she's a bit older than me, and yeah, I need it," he said.

Quick to the punch, Today host Joel Dry jokingly questioned if Smith was implying Hembrow is a "cougar".

"You're throwing me under the bus. I threw myself under the bus," the Geelong star laughed.

"She's the best, though, honestly, she's helped me with a lot of things."

The duo recently made headlines when they went Instagram official, but not in the way fans had been hoping.

Smith and Hembrow appeared in a sponsored post for Tinder, the video beginning with Smith sitting in his car saying that he wanted to "hard launch someone today".

Hembrow then popped out from behind him as the football player continued, "Tammy and I have decided we're going to make it official, we're going to be each other's Tinder coaches this summer."

"Yep," Hembrow added, "Now that we're just mates, who better than to help you with your dating game than a friend?"

Hembrow also posted a similar video on her account. '

"I know you guys have been wondering if the rumours about me and a certain athlete are true... well I've got some news," she began, before Smith revealed himself in the backseat.

"They are true... now that we're officially just mates, we are pairing up to be each other's Tinder coaches this summer."

So, it seems like we officially have to put the rumours to bed. Hembrow and Smith are just friends.
