Bachelor in Paradise star James Trethewie gives hospital update after hernia surgery

He's about to grace our screens in the new season of Bachelor in Paradise, but James Trethewie will likely be watching his island antics from a hospital bed as he recovers from surgery.

The Manly local shared a photo to Instagram after he underwent a hernia operation, describing "that post op feeling" in his cheeky caption.

"Where am I, how the hell did I get here, & why do I feel so damn good!!!" he joked to his followers.

"All good just getting old. Road to repair looks like loads of snacks, lots of couch time, Stan, Netflix... and pretty good timing for the new OurPlanet movie coming out Friday!!"

"Does anyone have any awesome Netflix/Stan recommendations for me?!"

His fans were quick to flood the post with messages of support and wishes for him to get well soon, as well as suggesting binge-worthy series like Breaking Bad and Shameless for him to fill his time with while he recovers.

Though it looks like he already has his sights set on the latest Our Planet Netflix nature documentary, which is unsurprising given his passion for the environment.

Trethewie is an ambassador for the World Wildlife Foundation and strong believer in looking after our planet and everything on it -- but for now he'll have to settle for being looked after himself.

"Also massive thanks to the nurses, surgeons & team here, everyone’s lovely," Trethewie added, "Even the food is amazing."

Though he'll have to take it easy for the time being, the fit 33-year-old is itching to get out of his hospital bed and back to being active.

"Cannot wait to get back into the ocean, surfing & back to gym!!" he wrote.

Despite being dropped from Sophie Monk's season of The Bachelorette Trethewie managed to win the hearts of plenty of Australians, and after his September 2018 split from girlfriend Alice Summers he was the perfect choice for Bachelor in Paradise.

And odds are the 33-year-old Tasmanian born financial advisor will be hooking up with another fan favourite on the show – Brooke Blurton, Sportsbet giving $7 odds to the pair ending up together.

But for now it looks like he'll be enjoying the company of his couch and a few good films.
