Adult film star August Ames left note in suspected suicide

Authorities have revealed adult film star August Ames left a note for her family before she was found dead on December 5. The 23-year-old's death followed an onslaught of online abuse over an arguably homophobic tweet.

Earlier Ames publicly criticised women who worked with male actors also working in gay porn, defending her right to choose sex partners. The tweet sparked an online debate about STD testing standards - with rumours gay shoots weren't subject to the same rigorous standards - and many critics dubbed Ames' tweet homophobic.

Fans and performers hurled online abuse at the young adult film star, including someone telling Ames - who has reportedly suffered depression - to take her own life. Ames’ final tweet read: "Fuck y'all".

On December 8, the Ventura County Medical Examiner told The Blast a note was discovered in Ames' car apologising to her family for committing suicide. It did not, however, mention the cyberbullying she had fallen victim to.

The medical examiner confirmed Ames was discovered dead around 3:45am in a public park 20 minutes from her Camarillo home in California. Drugs and alcohol were not found at the scene but toxicology tests are still being performed.

Following news of the 23-year-old's death, porn stars such as Jenna Jameson have spoken out criticising the adult film industry for not supporting Ames through the online attacks.

Ames' Twitter account hasn't been deactivated and is still receiving a slew of RIP messages.
