Andrew Shue and Marilee Fiebig have announced their engagement after their exes, Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes, tied the knot last month.

The unusual love story came after their respective spouses, co-hosts on daytime news show GMA3: What You Need to Know, were taken off-air amid rumours of an affair.

After the scandal erupted in late 2022, Fiebig, 48, and Shue, 59, developed a friendship that later turned romantic.

They dated for three years before getting engaged earlier this year.

“I don’t know how it happened, but there’s a happy ending,” Shue, a former Melrose Place star, told People.

He said they had gotten to know each other “in a time when we both needed a friend.”

He said he “had to grow through a lot of pain and a lot of struggle and a lot of humility”.

“You don’t know how you meet the person who’s right for you,” he explained.

“It just happened. And you can say how it’s just this kind of freak luck that this is how you ended up getting to know that person in a way that would allow you to reveal yourself and for her to reveal herself.”

The couple’s engagement news comes after Robach, 53, and Holmes, 49, officially tied the knot in a private wedding in September.

They had co-hosted a show on Good Morning America for just over two years from September 2020, until they were pulled off the air in December 2022. This was followed by their official exit from ABC News in January 2023.

The co-anchors sparked romance rumours in November 2022 when photos of them holding hands while on holiday in New York went viral.

At the time, Robach was married to Shue while Holmes was married to Fiebig.

While the television hosts faced affair rumours, they later said they had already split from their respective partners, though they had not made their separations public yet.

Even so, ABC News officials removed Robach and Holmes from the air in late 2022, citing that their relationship caused an “internal and external distraction”.

The pair announced their engagement in October 2025 on an episode of their Amy & T.J. podcast.

“We are sharing with all of you that we are engaged and we’ve been engaged for just about a month now,” Robach said.

Holmes added: “We wanted to let you all know before anybody else was able to. We’ve learned that lesson, I guess, in the past about our relationship.”
