Amy Schumer has officially changed her son Gene Attell's name after realising it sounds a bit awkward

Amy Schumer has revealed she officially changed her son's name after realising it sounded like 'genital.'

On podcast 3 Girls, 1 Keith, the 38-year-old comedian said that she and her husband, Chris Fisher, have now changed Gene's middle name.

"Do you guys know that Gene, our baby's name is officially changed? It's now Gene David Fischer. It was Gene Attell Fischer, but we realised that we, by accident, named our son 'Genital,'" Schumer explained.

Claudia O'Doherty, Schumer's friend and a guest on the podcast, was quick to respond.

"My mum pointed that out to me actually. My mum was like, 'Amy's called her son genital' and I was like, 'What are you talking about?' and then she was right," O'Doherty replied.

Gene's middle name, Attell, was initially chosen in honour of Schumer's comedian friend and Trainwreck co-star Dave Attell.

Amy and Chris discussed the name change with Attell, deciding to use his first name instead.

Though Schumer said Attell was "honoured" to have her son named after him, she said David is better, as it's also her father's middle name.

Schumer gave birth to Gene in May, 2019, one year after she and Chris were married. After announcing the name on Instagram, fans were quick to point out how it sounded, thinking the name was a prank.

"Amy Schumer naming her son Gene Attell feels like a sick joke and I need to log off the internet," one tweet said. "SHE NAMED HER CHILD SOMETHING THAT PHONETICALLY SOUNDS LIKE 'GENITAL.' I CAN'T!!!!!!"

Another person tweeted, "Surely this is a prank from Amy Schumer. Gene Attell. Like... genital?"

Schumer shared the news that she had welcomed her son with a on Instagram, after the announcement of the birth of Meghan and Harry's baby, Archie.

"10:55pm last night. Our royal baby was born," she wrote, alongside a photo of herself, Chris and Gene.
