Alec Baldwin opens up about wife's 'heartbreaking' miscarriage

Alec Baldwin has opened up about the heartbreaking miscarriage his wife suffered in April, and shared his concerns for her wellbeing.

"When your wife tells you she's going to have a baby and you lock into that idea, there's a kind of a zone you enter. And when they tell you that's not going to work out, it was sad. It did break my heart a little bit," the father-of-five told People.

Hilaria Baldwin, 35, confirmed that she had suffered a miscarriage on April 9, sharing the sad news to Instagram.

"I am most likely experiencing a miscarriage," the yoga teacher shared with her Instagram followers on April 5.

"I think it's important to show the truth," she continued. "I want to be a part of the effort to normalize miscarriage and remove the stigma from it."

"You worry about your wife," the actor, 61, admitted to People.

"My wife's happiness is my prime concern and she was very upset for a while. But we [had known] pretty quickly that it wasn't going well. Y'know, heartbeats and then sonograms and things like that."

The star couple are already parents to daughter Carmen, five, and sons Rafael, three, Leonardo, two, and Romeo, who turns one this month.

Baldwin also has a 23-year-old daughter, Ireland, with ex-wife Kim Basinger.

The 30 Rock actor said he and his wife are "not done" having children yet.

"My wife and I have had babies, y'know, like my wife is GM and we have an assembly line, and they've been coming off the assembly line, a new model pretty briskly," he joked.

The mother-of-four confirmed the miscarriage on April 10, writing "There was no heartbeat today at my scan… so it's over… but I have some pretty strong and amazing heartbeats right here."

She accompanied the news with an adorable family photo on Instagram, reflecting that she's "surrounded by such love and I feel so fortunate."
