Katy Perry confirmed as headline act at highly-anticipated AFL Grand Final pre-game show

Katy Perry is officially returning to Australia, and it's for a very special reason.

The award-winning American singer will be headlining the 2024 AFL Grand Final pre-game show in September, the organisation confirmed this morning.

"I'm so excited to be back in Australia and back at the mighty MCG to perform in front of 100,000 of the best and loudest fans in the world at this year's Toyota AFL Grand Final," Perry said in a statement shared by the AFL.

She concluded: "See you in September Oi Oi Oi!"

It's not the first time Perry has performed at a major sporting event, with the Roar songstress notably headlining the famous Super Bowl Half-Time Show in 2015, and the 2020 ICC T20 Women's World Cup.

"Katy Perry is an international music icon who has been entertaining fans with her chart-topping hits for many years," Kylie Rogers, who is the executive general manager, customer and commercial, at the AFL said.

"So the AFL is delighted to have her join us at the 2024 Toyota AFL Grand Final in what will be a spectacular Telstra Pre-Game Entertainment performance."

Perry's grand final performance follows those of KISS and Robbie Williams, and will come on the heels of her sixth studio album's release – 143 is due out on September 20, with her performance slated for September 28.

Woman's World – the lead single off the upcoming album – however, has been slammed by critics and has slammed by critics online.
