Reality TV star Abbie Chatfield talks trolling and death threats she receives online: 'I'll get about 2500 DMs'

Abbie Chatfield has opened up about the constant trolling and death threats she receives daily as a public figure.

Speaking on her podcast Hot Nights with Abbie Chatfield on the Hit Network, the reality TV star and media personality said she receives around 2500 private messages a day on Instagram — and most of them are negative and ranged from one-liners to paragraph-long hate messages. 

"You can look at your insights to see how many story replies you get a day and that's mostly your DMs [direct messages] so I'll get about 2500 just DMs a day in general," she told co-host Rohan Edwards. 

Chatfield said she didn't have time to read all of them but of the "one to two per cent" she did read, about "25 to 30" were negative.

"I get death threats once a month … like, 'I know where you live and I'm waiting in the bushes to come and get you.' And they send me my address," she said.

The 26-year-old said she alerted the police to the death threats but they said their hands were tied.

"I called the cops and the cops said, 'Well, until something happens to you, we can't do anything," she said, adding that once the trolling was so bad, she received four death threats in one day.

Now Chatfield will sometimes take matters into her own hands, often reposting "vile" messages she receives from online trolls.

"If people send me really vile stuff, I'll just post it on my stories and I often just tag them," she said.
