With just $55, you can give your old kitchen appliances a facelift that will make them look as brand new as a $1,000 upgrade – and it's a hack so easy, you can do it yourself.

See how in the video above.

White kitchen appliances used to be a staple in every kitchen, but in recent years they've fallen out of favour thanks to the rise of black and stainless steel.

But why throw away a perfectly good fridge or oven, just because it's white?

With the help of tradie Lawts, Jess explained that a simple heat resistant paint was all you needed to achieve a more modern look.

"You can go and spend four or five grand on a new one, or use the same one and just rebirth it," Lawts said – isn't that a no brainer!

The paint is heat resistant up to 280 degrees Celsius and is a bargain at $55.

"You can schmick that thing up and you don't need any skills to do it! My favourite hack as a skill-less person," Jess joked.

Maurice immediately noticed his new black fridge and oven – only to realise they were actually not new at all!

"It's not?! Looks like it just come out of the factory!" Maurice said in disbelief.

They'd also kept his original kitchen cabinetry, which also got a stylish new paint job.

It wasn't the only hack used to renovate Maurice's home.

Jess uncovered an old fireplace behind a wall, and after giving it some love, investment mentor Lachlan was impressed by the value added.

The valuation

Ahead of the renovation, local real estate agent Shan checked out Maurice's home and found it needed a lot of work.

He returned just five days later and was gobsmacked.

"I was a little concerned actually, the amount of work they had in front of them but the way the house has come out – it's impressive!"

He was especially impressed by updates to the "money areas" of the kitchen and bathroom.

Shan estimated it'd increased the value of the property "by a good 50 per cent".

Budget breakdown

Jess and Norm transformed Maurice's entire house, and even put in a brand new 'man cave' inside a $3,500 old bus in his backyard.

It sounds extravagant, but you wouldn't believe how they kept this so wallet-friendly they actually came in under the $10k budget!
