Common household item 'destined for the tip' helps add up to $150k value to suburban Melbourne home
Remember that cabinet your nan displayed all her fancy plates, glassware and trinkets in? Well, it's called a hutch and there's a good reason why you shouldn't throw it away.
In the latest episode of Budget Battlers, hosts and former Block stars Jess Eva and Norm Hogan built an entire kitchen out of hutches that were "destined for the tip".
Real estate expert Nicholas Skapoulas estimated their $7,240 DIY renovation added up to $150,000 in value to the Melbourne home. Keep reading to see how they did it:

Jess and Norm geared up with just a $10,000 budget to makeover Melbourne grandmother Sandra's home in just five days.
Sandra had lived there for over 40 years and said the kitchen has "had nothing done to it since World War II".
She had just one request for the renovation – that she'd get kitchen cupboards. The kitchen had bare doors ever since someone swiped them some years ago.

Jess had a cracking idea to overhaul Sandra's kitchen for next to nothing.
"We're going to build an entire kitchen purely out of grandma's hutches. This is going to make a flash kitchen and it's not going to cost us a cent," Jess told cameras.
The plan was "cut up the hutches and put them together like jigsaw puzzles" to create kitchen cabinetry.

While the hutches would get new life with a saw, a sand and a fresh coat of paint, Jess purchased undulating subway tiles for the splashback to modernise the kitchen.
