Women a 'bargaining chip' in WA's GST push

The West Australian opposition has accused the state government of using women as a political bargaining chip by opposing a GST exemption on sanitary products.

Treasurer Mike Nahan says he won't back the change unless it's part of broader GST reform, given WA receives "an unacceptably low" share of the tax.

"Using WA women as a bargaining chip in the GST debate is wrong and unfair to women," WA Labor leader Mark McGowan said on Wednesday.
