WA man to fight kangaroo cruelty charge

One of four men charged in Western Australia's kangaroo torture and killing case has pleaded not guilty.

Ben Jaydon Malpuss, 26, entered the plea in Joondalup Magistrates Court on Monday and is scheduled to go to trial on July 1.

Malpuss has pleaded guilty to six other charges related to random gel blaster gun drive-by attacks in Craigie.

Another man who was charged over both incidents, Luke Kevin Dempster, 26, was last week jailed for two years after pleading guilty to all 12 of his charges.

The court heard Dempster was the driver, while Malpuss was the shooter.

Three people were struck with the projectiles, including a father in front of his eight-year-old son.

Malpuss is the only one of the four men, who were associated with a gang, to plead not guilty to animal cruelty.

For his role in the attacks - which involved the kangaroos being burnt, shot, stabbed and punched with knuckledusters - Ricky Ian Swan, 28, was last week sentenced to at least five months in prison.

The fourth man, Dylan Leslie Griffin, 22, has entered guilty pleas and will face court again on January 14.
