WA man mailed meth in chilli-lined book

A 32-year-old Western Australian man has been charged with drug trafficking after he allegedly imported methamphetamine from Canada hidden inside a children's book lined with powdered chillies.

Border Force intercepted a parcel addressed to the man at a Perth air cargo depot on Sunday and found 300 grams of the drug worth an estimated $225,000 concealed inside.

The package was delivered without the meth and when the man's South Yunderup home was raided, the book had been opened and the contents were being separated.

"Criminals using chilli powder or any other substances to mask illicit drugs is not new for the ABF," Border Force regional commander for WA James Copeman said.

The man was also charged with dealing in the proceeds of crime over $7000 found at his home.

He has been remanded in custody after briefly appearing in Perth Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
