WA gov overreached on light rail: minister

The West Australian transport minister has admitted the Liberal state government "overreached" with its MAX light rail election promise, warning the opposition is at risk of making the same mistake.

Dean Nalder blamed a change in federal government for the delay with the MAX project, which was the Liberal party's flagship pledge of the 2013 state election and a rival to Labor's Metronet plan.

"The one where we've overreached, and we admit this, is to do with MAX," Mr Nalder told reporters on Monday.

Mr Nalder's comments came in response to the opposition's promise to move Midland railway station closer to a new public hospital if elected - the latest in a string pre-election public transport commitments from Labor.
