WA cop will fight Cousins leak allegation

A 29-year-old Perth policeman has pleaded not guilty to sharing information with his journalist girlfriend about the arrest of disgraced ex-AFL player Ben Cousins.

Daniel James Erik Jamieson appeared in Perth Magistrates Court on Tuesday, charged with four counts of disclosing unauthorised information between March 12 and 18.

The constable allegedly looked up information on a police computer and passed it on to his girlfriend, Seven Network reporter Monique Dirksz.

She then showed up at Fremantle Police Station in the early hours of March 12 after Cousins was arrested for allegedly leading police on a low-speed chase from Bicton to Mosman Park.

The former West Coast Eagles captain was charged over the incident with reckless driving, failing to stop and refusing a breath test.

Jamieson was released on bail with a $2000 personal undertaking and is due back in court on July 14 for a trial allocation hearing.

He has been stood down from duty.
