WA bushfire aid concert raises $150,000

A last-minute music concert in aid of those affected by the bushfire burning in Western Australia's South West region has raised more than $150,000.

The organisers behind cancelled music festival Southbound pulled together the fundraiser at Perth's HBF Stadium in just 48 hours on Sunday night.

Acting Premier Kim Hames said the concert, featuring international acts Disclosure and Bloc Party, and Aussie bands Birds of Tokyo and San Cisco, was an "amazing achievement".

"It was wonderful to see so many people rallying to help fellow West Australians affected by the devastating South West bushfires," he said.

"To put together a concert for 3500 people in under two days is an amazing achievement."

The three-day Southbound festival in Busselton was cancelled on Thursday as the bushfire loomed.

But on Friday afternoon, organisers set about gathering the bands from around Australia for a concert in Perth instead.

Tickets for the concert only went on sale on Saturday.

A spokeswoman for the HBF Stadium said it took an "overwhelming effort" from bands, the venue and the community to pull together the concert in such a short time.

The money raised will be donated to the Lord Mayor's Distress Relief Fund for victims.
