Man who drove drugs from Vic to WA jailed
A 50-year-old tradesman who drove to Perth from Victoria to deliver kilograms of drugs has been jailed for 11 years.
Gavin Steers hid almost 5kg of methylamphetamine in a purpose-built compartment in his car then dropped it off at a woman's CBD apartment in March this year.
About 90 minutes later, police raided his city hotel room and found almost $8000 in cash.
They then searched his car and discovered 982 grams of cocaine and 991g of meth, also hidden in a concealed storage area.
The District Court of WA heard Steers was offered $20,000 to drive the drugs to Perth.
He used cocaine, drank heavily, gambled and was motivated by financial gain.
Steers will be eligible for parole after serving nine years behind bars.
