Man in court over fatal stabbing outside Perth church

A man accused of stabbing a 20-year-old to death near a church in Perth has appeared in court charged with murder.

Travis Raymond Robinson, 37, allegedly stabbed Piri Phillips near the Wesley church in William Street about 6.20pm yesterday.

He is also accused of assaulting another man, Peter Robert Henry, and is facing a charge of assault with intent to prevent arrest of a person over that.

Mr Robinson, from Nollamara in Perth's north, appeared at the Perth Magistrates Court but has not yet entered any pleas to the charges and was remanded in custody to appear at Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court on January 25.

Friends of the victim took to Facebook to pay tribute to Mr Phillips, with Helen Sultanowsky describing him as "the most gentle and loving soul".

"My heart breaks knowing I'm not gonna see you around anymore, you looked after me in my darkest times... had heart of gold you always looked out for me," Gemyni Jamila posted.

"R.I.P my brother blessed to have spent the last day with you always in my heart forever," Hannah Patia wrote.

Another friend Dalton Jut Chullun Mc posted saying "All the love my cuz rest easy. Can't believe your (SIC) gone cuz so young, you got me stunned looking back over those child hood (SIC) memories."
