Husband charged with wife's murder as body is discovered in secluded home
An elderly man has been charged with murdering his wife on a rural property near York, east of Perth.
Police and paramedics were called to the home last last night.
The 68-year-old's body was found inside the home she'd lived in with her 70-year-old husband for nearly 24 years.
The property is surrounded by bush and hundreds of metres back from the road.
Neighbours told 9NEWS the couple kept mainly to themselves, never had visitors and the victim hadn't been seen for months.
At this stage it is unclear how long the woman had been dead before someone raised the alarm.
Neighbours reported a foul smell coming from the house just a few hours before police swarmed the property.
The 70-year-old man was questioned by detectives and has since been charged with murder.
He'll face court in Perth on Saturday.
