A 44-year-old female teacher at a school in Western Australia's South West region has been accused of sexual offences against a 16-year-old female student.

The South Bunbury woman has been charged with five counts of person in authority indecently dealing with a child, and will appear before the Bunbury Magistrates Court on November 2.

The offences allegedly occurred between September 2014 and this month.

The Department of Education's executive director of professional standards and conduct, Eamon Ryan, said the teacher has been stood down and banned from all schools while the case was ongoing.

"The teacher is no longer an employee of the Department of Education," Mr Ryan said in a statement.

"As this is a police matter and now before the courts, we will not make any further comment."
