Dog dies in house fire caused by candle

A woman was hospitalised and her dog died in a house fire in Ellenbrook started by an unattended candle.

The occupants managed to escape from the blaze at the property in Gibney Way at about 9.15pm on Thursday evening.

A woman in her 40s was taken to Fiona Stanley Hospital in Murdoch with burns to her head.

A pet dog was killed in the fire and a cat managed to escape alive.

When crews arrived there were flames through the roof and the home could not be saved.

A Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokesman said seven crews battled the blaze, which was started by a candle.

It is estimated the cost of damage to the home is $400,000.
