A Western Australian man has been charged with producing and disseminating child exploitation material to child sex offenders in American prisons.

Investigators say the 46-year-old man from Manning corresponded with convicted child sex offenders and murderers around the world for a number of years, both in writing and on the internet.

The Child Exploitation Operations Squad in WA received a tip-off from the Texas Board of Criminal Justice in January and officers then raided a home in Manning on February 12.

Officers allegedly located and seized numerous files, photos, and videos belonging to the accused that are classified as child exploitation material.

The man was charged with two counts of distributing child exploitation material and three counts or producing child exploitation material.

He is in custody and will appear in Perth Magistrates Court today.
