Arson suspected in Perth archery club fire

A suspicious fire has gutted an archery clubrooms in Perth, destroying memorabilia and causing $150,000 worth of damage.

A car is believed to have smashed into the Gosnells Archers facility in Huntingdale about 5am on Friday. A fire damaged 80 per cent of the structure, which is a steel shed owned by the City of Gosnells.

Club secretary Elaine Napier said the arsonists may have targeted the archery club believing they could access bows and arrows.

"They weren't able to get to those, to our knowledge anyway, because the storage area that they were in, which was a sea container, was fully locked," she told ABC radio.

She described the scene as "sheer devastation", with the clubs history, including leaderboards and honour boards, destroyed.

"It's completely gutted, everything is gone, and there is a burnt out car inside as well," she said.

The arson squad is investigating.
