Scott Volkers to stand trial over alleged offences

He's trained some of Australia's most successful swimming stars, but now he's facing five charges of indecent treatment of two girls he used to coach.

Scott Volkers has today been committed to stand trial in the Brisbane District Court, over alleged offences, said to have occurred in the 1980s.

His committal hearing today heard the two alleged victims were under 16 years at the time.

A magistrate today deemed there was enough evidence in the matter for it to be heard by a jury in a higher court.

Volkers did not enter a plea.

The court heard the offences allegedly occurred while he was working as a coach in Aspley and Bald Hills between 1984 and 1988.

His trial date is yet to be determined.

Volkers helped shape the careers of swimming stars Susie O'Neil and Samantha Riley, although there is no suggestion that either one of them has made a complaint against him.

He was employed by Swimming Australia and Swimming Queensland until 2010.
