Victorians hit with fresh round of public transport fare hikes
Victorians will pay up to $104 more per year on public transport after the state government quietly rolled out a fresh fare hike.
Commuters are set to be slugged with an extra 40c per day as the full fare daily Myki cap is raised from $11 to $11.40, or to $5.70 for concessions, from January 1.
The cost of a one-way trip will jump to $5.70, or $3.60 for concessions.

On the weekends, full daily fares will also increase to $8 or $4 for concessions.
For the average Myki card holder travelling five days per week, this equates to around $104 per year.
Public Transport Victoria (PTV) alerted travellers to the modest price hike on Friday, explaining that the fare changes "contribute to the operation of our train, tram and bus network".
Fares are reviewed each year and adjusted as needed, with changes applied statewide, ensuring equity for all Victorians," PTV said.

Public transport in Victoria will be free on weekends for two months over summer until February 1 to mark the opening of the Melbourne Metro Tunnel.
Each Saturday and Sunday from first service until last, transport gates will remain open and commuters won't need to tap their myki card on or off.
Myki fares have been incrementally rising over the past few years.
In 2023, the daily fare cap reached the $10 threshold after an increase of 80c.
