A luxury Springvale mechanics has been firebombed just days after the owner was shot at.

The owner says he's innocent, with detectives investigating whether a former client with links to organised crime was the intended target.

It was just before midnight when the Centre Road business in Springvale was torched by three youths who fled in a white car.

It’s the second time Etuners Motorsport has been targeted.

Owner Gordan Zurovac was shot at on October 26, with bullets narrowly missing him as he sat in his car.

Zurovac, who is devastated by the fire, told 9News he doesn't know why he was targeted, but received a threat from an anonymous overseas number three weeks ago.

Police are investigating whether a former client with links to organised crime was the intended target.

“I would always rule in, not rule out organised crime, especially for these types of matters,” Detective Inspector Chris Murray said.

“This business and the owner, is, is certainly cooperating, completely innocent, and you know, certainly scratching his head as to why he would be targeted.”

Zurovac, who is in Melbourne, is assisting police as they continue to hunt down the culprits.

This latest arson attack has prompted senior police to issue a warning to youth criminals tasked with committing these crimes for a quick buck: reconsider ”or face the consequences”.

“Innocent people have been injured, and we've had an innocent woman who's died as a result. And that's on you,” Murray said.

One youth offender was killed after setting himself on fire on Melbourne’s Chapel Street.

Two others remain on life support with significant burns as a result of two  separate incidents.

Police say they've increased patrols and are working with the Retailers Association to flag suspicious purchases of jerry cans and fuel.

The message from Murray is simple: “If you want to roll the dice, there's every chance you're gonna get caught.”
