Police say the alleged attack on a One Nation volunteer earlier this week was not politically motivated.

The alleged assault unfolded in Torquay, near Geelong, on Sunday night after two people allegedly damaged One Nation signs on display outside the 60-year-old man’s home.

Police said they were then called to the Scorpio Street home at about 7:45pm after the man was allegedly assaulted with a blunt weapon.

He was taken to Geelong Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries after reportedly suffering bleeding on the brain, where he remains in a stable condition.

A 37-year-old man and a 14-year-old boy were taken into custody a short time after the alleged attack.

The man, from Hampton Park, was charged with intentionally causing injury and other assault-related offences, and directly presented at Geelong Magistrates Court.

The boy was issued a caution.

Police have since confirmed that detectives investigating the alleged attack are not treating it as politically motivated.

They also clarified a baseball bat was not used in the attack, despite earlier reports of that, but that a different blunt weapon was allegedly used.

It comes as several politicians, including One Nation leader Pauline Hanson denounced the alleged attack.

She said that the man was left with unrecognisable following the incident.
