Woman has narrow escape as venomous snake wraps around her leg in Victoria

A woman has had a scare after a venomous snake more than a metre long wrapped itself around her leg.

CCTV footage on Facebook page Snake Catcher Geelong shows the frightening moment a copperhead snake emerged from under a wall in her backyard on Friday at her Geelong home.

It got caught around her leg but it's unclear if it tried to bite her.

Australian copperhead snakes are highly venomous, with bites potentially fatal if victims don't get quick medical help fast.

The footage shows her kick the snake off of her leg and out of the way before falling over.

She wasn't hurt, and was seen gesturing to other people to stay away from the snake.

According to the post the snake was about 1.2 metres long.

"When I caught up with her, she was shaky as, it will take her a while to get over this experience," Snake Catcher Geelong said.

"Snakes often move along walls and fences."

The snake was removed from the garden by the snake catcher.

Copperhead snakes are often found in south-eastern Australia, though some have also been seen in Queensland.
