A man with alleged links to Melbourne’s underworld was lured outside a Reservoir home before being gunned down in a suspected targeted hit, police say.

Elias Serevetas, 55, was shot in the head in the driveway of a Mahoneys Road property at 11.50pm on Tuesday.

His family and neighbours reportedly ran outside after at least six shots were fired while a newborn baby was barely a metre away.

Police believe Serevetas had ties to serious and organised crime networks and was the father of “Snowman Adam”, whom 9News understands is allegedly a standover man linked to jailed tobacco war kingpin Kazem “Kaz” Hamad.

“Look, simply I’ll say that the individual was lured from the address,” Detective Inspector Leigh Howse said.

Investigators believe the gunman fled alone in a stolen black Lexus, which was later dumped and set alight in Robinvale Avenue in Thomastown, about a seven-minute drive away.

The gunman then allegedly got into a white Toyota Corolla, which police briefly followed before losing sight of it.

CCTV later captured the Corolla being abandoned in Dakota Drive, with a person seen getting out and running towards Lalor Soccer Club.

The gunman remains on the run, with police appealing for dashcam footage as they piece together his movements before and after the shooting.

Police said the attack appeared to have involved significant planning.

“Police are appealing for information from members of the public in regards to this crime, which would have involved a lot of planning and preparation,” Howse said.

The killing comes amid a series of shootings across Melbourne, with six recorded in the city over the past three weeks.

One of those attacks was the fatal shooting of 42-year-old Ali Mohamad Albadri in Wollert less than two weeks ago.

9News understands Albadri had links to organised crime, including Hamad.

Police said other recent incidents involving indiscriminate violence would be examined as part of their investigations.

No arrests have been made over Serevetas’ death.
