Members of the public have performed a dramatic citizens' arrest in Geelong after an alleged carjacking yesterday.

Police said a 74-year-old woman was in her car at traffic lights at the intersection of Shannon Avenue and Church Street in Hamlyn Heights abut 5.15pm when a woman approached her car.

It's alleged the woman threatened the elderly victim with a knife before forcing her out of the car.
