Offenders on the run after two men stabbed in Melbourne home invasion

Two men have been stabbed during a home invasion in Melbourne's north-west, with the offenders still on the run.

Just before midnight, multiple men entered a home on Sterling Close in Greenvale, threatening the family who lived there with machetes.

They were inside for 15 minutes, attempting to steal luxury cars and jewellery from the home.

However, two men inside fought back, forcing the thieves to flee.

The pair, a 48-year-old and 35-year-old, were taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

"I imagine it would have been quite traumatic for all involved, whether they were assaulted or not, but just being present for it would be quite scary," Senior Constable Mitch Jones said.

"The injuries sustained by the victims, there's quite a lot of blood, it's sprawling all throughout."

The men who carried out the attack were wearing dark clothing and are believed to be in their early 20s.

They fled in a dark coloured SUV, police say.

Police are still investigating the nature of the attack and whether the two groups knew each other.
