Disqualified driver charged after alleged stolen car chase hits 200km/h
A disqualified driver has been charged, accused of taking an allegedly stolen car through Melbourne’s south-east at speeds of up to 200km/h, leading police on a wild pursuit.
Police say the Holden Commodore, fitted with fake plates, was first spotted in Chadstone shortly before 1am on Friday.
Latham Murphy, 31, is accused of taking police on a high-speed chase through Melbourne. Supplied
It then continued through Glen Waverley, Mount Waverley, Mulgrave, Rowville and Wheelers Hill.
The car allegedly drove over stop sticks before travelling on its rims and, at times, on the wrong side of the road.
The pursuit ended in Springvale, where police arrested 31-year-old Seaford man Latham Murphy after he allegedly ditched the car and tried to flee.
Police say they later found a backpack containing items that could be used in burglaries, an electronic device used to steal cars, and jerry cans inside the vehicle.
Murphy has been remanded in custody to appear in court again on Monday.
