Teen killed, two others fighting for life after P-plater loses control of ute
A teenager has died and two others are fighting for life after the ute they were travelling in veered into oncoming traffic in Melbourne’s north-west.
An 18-year-old P-plater was behind the wheel when the ute lost control on a downhill stretch of Mickleham Road, Attwood and swerved into oncoming traffic around 7am.

The ute was T-boned by two other cars, leaving the young driver and his 17-year-old front-seat passenger fighting for life.
An 18-year-old Tullamarine man in the back seat of the ute was taken to The Royal Melbourne Hospital, where he later died.
The drivers of the other two vehicles, a man in his 50s and a man in his 20s, were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

“They’ve been taken to hospital for observations due to the speed involved in the collision,” Detective Sergeant Lee Barton said.
“You know we’re talking about five people involved in an early morning collision....It’s wet and cold, so, you know, drive to the conditions and slow down.”
Half an hour earlier another life was lost in a crash in West Gippsland.
