Father and son killed in Melbourne house fire

A father and son have died in a horrific house fire in Melbourne's East.

Firefighters were called to the home on Craig Road in Donvale just before 4am after the house caught alight.

Inside, 61-year-old Calvin Reeder and his 14-year-old son, Brendan, were found dead.

More than 30 firefighters were called to the scene and managed to stop the fire from spreading to nearby properties.

Frantic neighbours grabbed hoses to try and help extinguish the flames.

The blaze was contained within 45 minutes, but the house had been destroyed by fire with the roof collapsing in.

The victims' loved ones were seen consoling each other at the scene.

At this stage, police are not treating the fire as suspicious.

Investigators are still working to determine what caused the fire.
