A teenage boy who reportedly fell from a train in Sydney's inner-west this morning has been rushed to hospital with head injuries and several fractures.

There were major delays for peak-hour commuters after police were called to the rail corridor between St Peters and Sydenham Railway Station at 5.30am.

The 17-year-old is being treated in Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Train services on the T3 Bankstown Line, T4 Eastern Suburbs and Illawarra Line and South Coast had earlier been suspended in both directions.

Services are now up and running between Sydenham and Redfern.

Police are investigating the circumstances of the incident.
