Toxic algae levels low in Victorian lake

Water authorities say a popular outer Melbourne lake poses no health risk to people or pets after low levels toxic blue-green algae were found in the water.

Melbourne Water says levels of blue-green algae at Lillydale Lake in Lilydale are not concerning but people should still exercise caution, while Yarra Ranges Council warns that swimming in the lake is not recommended at any time.

Contact with blue-green algae can cause skin irritation, mild respiratory effects and hayfever-like symptoms.
