'You can't touch this': Reporter says 'hands off' her comfy leggings to Gen Z

For decades, leggings have been a fitness staple for millions of active Aussies, however, the form fitting pants are the latest fashion item Gen Z has "cancelled".

And while milennials and older generations argue leggings are a great wear, even with everyday activities, the latest data suggests Gen Z may be onto something.

In 2022, leggings made up about 49 per cent of the big brands' range, now in 2025, that has dropped to around 36 per cent.

While the younger generation thinks baggy, looser fitting pants are the way to go, the Today hosts are sticking to their guns with the traditional active wear.

"Just add it to the list, I feel like I'm never going to be cool again," Gold Coast reporter Mia Glover said.

"Gen Z are calling leggings 'basic, millennial, cringe and daggy', I don't know about you, but if they say to leggings 'can't touch this', then you can't touch my leggings," she added before breaking into a 'daggy' MC Hammer dance.

And newsreader, Jayne Azzopardi agreed, saying leggings got her through two pregnancies.

"I'd just pull them on in the morning and never have to worry about anything," she said.

Plus, co-host Sarah Abo agreed, saying leggings are just so comfortable and versatile for wearing anywhere.
