Tasmanian devils shiver in the snow in NSW breeding facility
When these Tasmanian devils were moved up north as a way of preserving the species, they might have been hoping for some warmer conditions.
But a heavy fall of snow in the Hunter region's Barrington Tops has left these critters shivering with cold.
The high altitude in the NSW preserve more or less replicates the cooler conditions of the Apple Isle, but snowfall this far north is rare indeed.
More than 150 Tasmanian devils now live in the "Devil Ark" north of Newcastle, with another 40 anticipated to be born over the course of the breeding season.
There's no hope of warmer weather any time soon for these little varmits or indeed, the rest of NSW.
A low-pressure system is expected to bring gale-force winds up the coast while heavy rain is forecasted in the Riverina, southwest slopes and the central and southern tablelands.
