Delays and cancellations are expected on several Sydney train lines this afternoon, Transport for NSW has warned.

Industrial action is impacting maintenance works in Redfern, creating delays on the T1 North Shore, T1 Western, T9 Northern, Blue Mountains, and Central Coast and Newcastle line services.

A total of 61 train services were delayed and another 23 were cancelled this morning.

Sydney Trains workers are set for a pay rise, as well as a one-off $4500 payment.

"Industrial action by the Electrical Trades Union caused significant delays during this morning's peak, and delays are expected to continue in the evening peak," a spokesperson for Sydney Trains said.

The Electrical Trade Union said its workers had been "forced" to take industrial action.

"The past two weeks of intensive bargaining have resulted in very little movement at all," Electrical Trade Union Secretary Allen Hicks said.

"Workers have no choice but to ramp up protected industrial action to get the government to take notice and work constructively towards a fair deal."

Commuters have been told to plan ahead and keep up to date with the latest travel information through the transport app.
