Man shot dead in front of children in suspected gangland hit in Sydney's west

An alleged getaway driver has been charged after a man was shot dead in front of children in Sydney's south-west in a suspected gangland hit.

Police say the target was involved in the dealing of illicit drugs with links to an Asian crime gang.

After being shot several times, David Khou, 31, found refuge in a neighbour's driveway as his mother and residents tried to stop the bleeding.

"He was losing a lot of blood, but it was just too much for us to handle," a witness said.

Sydney's latest gangland shooting in Cabramatta West unfolded in front of 10 children in a St Johns Road front yard.

"My kids shouldn't have to go through something like that, watching someone run into our property shot up, covered in blood," a neighbour said.

Five minutes up the road in Wakeley, a white Audi sedan was set alight.

CCTV captured it pulling up on Bathurst Street, before the vehicle then began to smoke.

That same car was captured on video around the time of the shooting.

It was a targeted attack, putting the public at risk and devastating Khou's family and friends.

Superintendent Danny Doherty confirmed Khou had links to organised crime, particularly Asian criminal syndicates.

He said attack was "brazen" and "unacceptable".

"There are consequences of being involved in organised crime networks," he said.

"And we see it over and over again, they end up dead on the streets of Sydney.

"This person died outside his family residence, you know it's still daylight and he's collapsed on a neighbour's front lawn."

Police seized seizing Khou's car for forensic testing.

While the shooter is still on the run, a second getaway car has been seized in Bossley Park, with its alleged driver charged.

Police said they had arrested a 33-year-old man and seized a grey Jeep Cherokee they believe was a second car used in the attack.

He was taken to Fairfield Police Station where he was charged with accessory after the fact to murder and driver not disclosing the identity of a driver or passenger as required.

He was refused bail to appear in Parramatta Local Court tomorrow.
