Police seize $260m worth of drugs in raids linked to transnational crime syndicate

Three men have been arrested after officers conducted multiple raids across Sydney, allegedly linked to South-East Asian crime gangs.

Police seized 415 kilograms of prohibited drugs, three pistols, more than 300 rounds of ammunition, $450,000 in cash, and a ballistic vest.

Five search warrants were executed at alleged safe houses in Mays Hill, Bankstown, Campsie and Bonnyrigg Heights.

The drugs seized totalled 287 kilograms of methylamphetamines, 47 kilograms of cocaine, 81 kilograms of heroin, and 838 grams of MDMA.

The drugs add up to a total of $260 million in street value.

"Seizing nearly half a tonne of drugs in a unit, seizing a number of semi-automatic firearms that are imported, I think that shows the scale of this organised crime network," Detective Superintendent Peter Faux said.

Two of the people arrested are 26-year-old Jamey Le Tran and 19-year-old Edward Huynh.

Police believe it is an extended crime network that trades in both murder and drugs.

Authorities are currently investigating the links of the raids to the abduction and killing of Bankstown mother Thi Kim Tran.

Detectives are also looking at a potential connection to last week's attempted hit on a father at a daycare in Sydney's south-west.

"We believe highly likely that there are some links around certain entities in what occurred last week when we stopped an imminent murder, and these people and the syndicate we arrested last night," Faux said.

Those arrested yesterday have been charged with drug offences and participating in a criminal group.

Last night's raids are the latest in what police have called a breakthrough in the fight against multinational crime networks across Sydney.

"Absolutely, this is just the start of the resolution phase of this operation. We believe there are other people involved," Faux said.
