A Queensland woman has been airlifted to Toowoomba Hospital after being bitten by a highly venomous snake while asleep in her bed.

The woman, aged in her 20s, was bitten on her hand by what's believed to be an eastern brown snake at around 1am today.

She had been sleeping in her bed at a remote property near Glenmorgan in the state's Western Downs region, west of Toowoomba.

The woman's family applied bandages to the snake bite while waiting for the local Queensland paramedic to arrive.

A Toowoomba-based LifeFlight helicopter landed at the remote property and prepared the woman to receive anti-venom, before transporting her to Toowoomba Hospital.

She is in a stable condition in hospital.

The LifeFlight medics shared a confronting image of the eastern brown snake - the second most venomous land snake in the world - poking out from under the woman's doona.
