Lara has worked as a senior reporter at nine.com.au and formerly 9news.com.au for the past eight years.
Lara started her career as a regional journalist at The Condobolin Argus in 2014, spending her days on the road covering everything from agriculture news to healthcare cuts and a local bank arson. In 2016, Lara moved back to her home city of Sydney to work for The Huffington Post as Night Editor and subsequently Associate Editor, taking responsibility for running the website’s homepage and covering breaking world and national news as well as producing long-form features and opinion pieces.
Lara joined Nine in 2018, where she regularly led the evening news coverage for 9news.com.au, consulting closely with Nine’s television bureaus to feature the best of the nightly news bulletins and A Current Affair as well as exclusive online content. After 9news.com.au joined forces with nine.com.au, Lara worked primarily as the home page editor of 9news.com.au, as well as providing mentoring and training to staff. Since joining Nine, Lara has covered breaking news events including the Black Summer bushfires, the COVID-19 pandemic and the Grenfell Tower disaster.
Education
Lara graduated with Distinction from a Bachelor of Arts (Media & Communications) degree at the University of Sydney in 2013. She has since undertaken a course in voice training at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS).
Awards and Recognition
Lara was a finalist for the Jacoby-Walkley Foundation Scholarship in 2013. Earlier the same year, she secured an Australia-Korea Foundation Fellowship which saw her travel to Seoul for five weeks to work for The Korea Herald and meet with the Australian ambassador to Korea.
She was also part of the 9news.com.au team that won the Kennedy Award for Outstanding Online News Breaking for coverage of the 2020 bushfires.
